I am a clinical psychologist in private practice in West Los Angeles. I grew up abroad, frequently moving and living in different cultures, becoming bilingual, and being exposed to many ways of living outside of North America before returning to the United States. I studied psychology throughout my life, while also preparing for a career in physics, then critical theory and cultural studies, and finally film and media production. I worked in film and television, and technological sectors of the film industry, for 20 years
My film credits include Air Force One, Starship Troopers, Stuart Little 1 and 2, Polar Express, two Harry Potter films, Sin City, Superman, and Avatar. In that world, I learned to work in extremely high-demand/high-performance environments with studio executives, CEOs, producers and directors like Paul Verhoeven, Robert Rodriguez, Bryan Singer, Robert Zemeckis, and James Cameron.
Just prior to my entry into midlife, I obtained my doctorate in clinical psychology. By midlife, I had made a transition into private practice.
Part of my experience includes consultation and advising senior management teams and founders in the entertainment and tech sectors.
Academic and clinical interests and specialties include: the impact and relationship of creativity, media, technology, ecology, and late-stage capitalism to our psychological lives; the creative process; the importance of body-mind connection and embodiment in physical and psychological health; the impact of our careers on our lives, and constructing meaning in our life under the constraints of aging and the rapidly changing technological, economic, ecological, and political realities. I have authored a chapter on the archetype of the Machine in the forthcoming volume, Psychological and Philosophical Studies of Jung’s Teleology: The Future-Orientation of Mind.
I served on faculty at California School of Professional Psychology in Los Angeles, and am a clinical supervisor at Airport Marina Counseling Service. I have been interviewed on podcasts regarding the impact of media and technology on our psyches, and have given talks at Pepperdine University Graduate School of Education and Psychology and the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts.
I provide also care via telehealth for those who prefer this modality.
I have undergone extensive training in various approaches to working with trauma at the Los Angeles Institute and Society for Psychoanalytic Studies. I have completed several levels of training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, a somatic-relational approach to working with attachment wounds, complex and developmental trauma. I am currently an analytic candidate at the CG Jung Institute of Los Angeles.
